Lynda Thiel, Interior Designer
With 27 years in the industry, including 16 with Slater’s, and
having co-owned an interior design store, Lynda Thiel offers extensive
experience. Lynda notes that before the word “eclectic”
was invented, she was mixing contemporary and traditional styles. “It
gives balance to a room,” Lynda explains. “It can work really
well when you have family heirlooms.”
Although she’s earned an interior design degree, the Modesto
native says she’s learned far more through hands-on training.
“I think good decorating sense has to be somewhat innate, and
although some jobs can be challenging, I still have a passion for what
I do.” Lynda continues, “I understand quality, and that
less is more.” She prefers timeless, multifunctional pieces that
will work in various rooms.
A talented photographer, Lynda frequently takes before and after pictures
of her designs. Lighting is another interest. “Most people don’t
have adequate lighting or enough types of lighting. I’m knowledgeable
about it and know that it can really make or break a room,” she
notes.“I’m aware of what works and what doesn’t, and
I listen to clients to determine the image they want to present,”
Lynda says. “Then I tailor the design to match the client. To
me, every house and every room is unique to that person.”
She enjoys advising clients. “I can help them think outside the
box and give advice about simple things that can make a big difference,”
she says. Lynda is confident that when she visits a client’s home,
measures the rooms and draws the layout to scale, she can really help
the client in terms of the best room arrangements, maximum seating and
increasing a room’s functionality.
